A new opener only works well on a door that is balanced, so the installation starts with the door and not with the box. We lift the door by hand with the old opener disconnected, check the springs, cables and rollers, and repair what is weak, because an opener is a motor for moving a balanced door and not a replacement for the springs.
Then we match the unit to the door: chain drive for a detached garage where noise does not matter, belt drive or a wall-mounted unit for a garage under a bedroom or beside a kitchen, and a stronger motor for the heavy insulated doors that bigger houses carry. We mount the rail, run the wiring, set the travel and force limits, fit the photo-eyes low and level, program remotes and keypads, and test the reversal before we hand you the remote.
When a New Opener Makes Sense
- The opener is loud enough to wake the house
- It is slow, jerky or struggles on the way up
- The remote works only from the driveway
- No photo-eyes, or eyes that no longer line up
- You want a keypad, phone control or extra remotes
- The old unit failed and parts are no longer made
Mounting an Opener in a Coastal Garage
On the coast the opener is a long-term guest in a humid, sometimes salty garage, so the details of the installation matter. We keep wiring and photo-eyes where floor splash cannot reach them, plug the unit into a surge-protected outlet, and offer a battery-backup option so the door still moves after a power cut. That matters in the wet season: June through September brings about half of the 52.44 inches of rain NOAA records at Jacksonville Beach, along with the thunderstorms that cause outages.

Check the door first
Balance, springs, cables and rollers are inspected, because a new opener on a bad door fails early.

Drive type, motor strength and mounting are chosen for your door weight and for what sits above or beside the garage.
Install and wire
Rail, motor, wall control and eyes are mounted and wired to the maker's instructions, with the eyes low and level.
Program and test
Limits and force are set, remotes and keypads are programmed, and the safety reversal is tested before we leave.
