What should I do first when a garage door spring breaks?
Stop using the opener and leave the door where it is. With the spring gone, the opener is trying to lift the full weight of the door, which can burn out the motor or strip its gears, and lifting the door by hand is risky. Call us and we bring springs sized to your door. Our spring repair page explains the job.
How much does a garage door repair cost?
Our published starting prices are $150 per spring, $150 per cable, $120 per set of rollers, and $150 per door for track or off-track repair. Opener repairs and replacement panels are priced on site, because they depend on the brand, model and color. The service call is $0 when we complete the repair. The pricing page lists everything.
Why do garage door parts wear out faster near the ocean?
Salt carried inland on the sea breeze settles on every steel part in the garage and holds moisture against it. Plated springs pit, cable strands rust from the inside and roller bearings stiffen. Galvanized or coated hardware and regular lubrication slow that down, and our roller replacement page shows what worn parts look like.
Does a new garage door near the beach need a wind rating?
Yes, the door has to meet the wind design for its address. The City of Jacksonville window and door worksheet uses 130 mph for Risk Category II homes east of its demarcation line and asks for the design pressure and Florida Product Approval number of the door. In Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Johns County has you look up the value for the exact address. We choose the new door to match.
Why does the opener hum while the door stays shut?
When the motor hums or the trolley travels and the door stays put, the cause is usually in the door itself: a broken spring, a snapped cable or rollers out of the track. It can also be a stripped drive gear inside the opener. Please stop pressing the button and call us, or read our opener repair page.
Can you swap a single dented section and keep the rest?
Often it can, as long as the maker still produces that section in the model and color of your door. We read the labels on the door, check what is available and quote it on site. If the section is discontinued or the rest of the door is worn as well, we tell you. See panel replacement.
Will someone pick up at 2 a.m. or on a Sunday?

Is a battery backup worth adding to my opener?
On the Beaches it usually is. Storms knock the power out, and a battery backup lets the opener run the door several times without mains power. Many current belt and wall-mount openers offer one, and we can include it when we install a new opener.
My door is crooked and one side has left the track. Can I still use it?
No. Leave it where it is and keep people and cars out from under it, because a door off its track can drop or swing. We secure it, reset the rollers, repair the track and test the balance. Read more on off-track repair.
